I’ve never been on a roller coaster.
I’ve watched others delight in the screams and thrills as they twist and turn through the air, but I’ve never been tempted to join them.
The closest I’ve come is a mild kiddie ride at Legoland, a ship gently swinging side to side. Even then, gasping for breath and desperate to get off, I could barely endure it. My children laughed at my inability to stomach what they found amusing but, for me, it was anything but fun.
For Intuitive-Sensitives, roller coasters represent more than just a thrill ride, they epitomise what we find most challenging: surprises.
The sudden twists and turns don’t just jolt the stomach, they disrupt our nervous systems. Our heightened awareness of subtle energetic shifts primes us to seek predictability as a form of emotional and physical stability.
Surprises demand a level of preparation that often defeats their very purpose.
When a surprise occurs, especially one perceived as a threat or challenge, the body’s hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis kicks into action.
This system releases cortisol, the stress hormone, to help us respond. However, for Intuitive-Sensitives, whose nervous systems are more reactive, this response is often disproportionate.
Surprises can spike cortisol levels higher and extend the stress response longer than in others, making surprises physically and emotionally draining.
This is why Intuitive-Sensitives feel far more at ease when we can anticipate what’s next.
Predictability isn’t just comforting, it’s a necessity for maintaining balance.
Our natural ability to predict the behaviour of others and our environment shields us from emotional overwhelm, allowing us to navigate the world with greater ease.
Where does this aversion to surprises come from? It often begins early in life.
Many Intuitive-Sensitives have come from unpredictable backgrounds where there has been emotional volatility, a ‘walking on eggshells’ environment.
Where that is true, we’ve become experts at predicting the unpredictable, knowing when to act and when to sneak off into the background.
Such survival instincts have made us super aware and hypervigilant, but foresight comes naturally to us, making us an ideal source of wisdom and empowerment.
It’s not that we dislike excitement or new experiences; we simply prefer a warning.
Preparing our systems allows us to engage with the unknown from a place of calm rather than reactivity.
So, while surprises may not be our forte, our gift lies in preparation, insight, and the ability to help others navigate life’s twists and turns.
Embracing foresight allows us to thrive in a world that often feels chaotic, bringing a sense of calm to ourselves and those around us.
When we learn to trust this innate ability, this natural talent for sensing what's ahead, we discover that what once felt like a burden becomes our greatest strength.
By embracing our predictive abilities, rather than fighting them, we unlock a deeper way of moving through life.
Are you ready to acknowledge your gift? You never know, it could change your life.
This article explores how Intuitive-Sensitives navigate life's unpredictability and our unique relationship with surprises.
I often hear from fellow Intuitive-Sensitives about their experiences with unexpected changes - from everyday disruptions to major life shifts. Some feel exhausted by constant vigilance, while others have learned to trust their predictive abilities as a gift rather than a burden.
Have you noticed your own sensitivity to surprises? When has your ability to anticipate changes served as a strength? Perhaps you've experienced moments where your foresight helped you or others navigate challenging situations?
Join me in the comments section this week so we can explore these insights together. During the first week after publication, I'll personally respond to your thoughts and questions.
Give the Soul Directed Relationships Meditation a go, even if you’ve never done meditation before – just follow the words.
When the Orphan energy is active, you wait for the rescue that never happened, you feel lost, don’t know where you fit in, you settle for less than you want and you desperately want to go ‘home’ but you don’t know where home is.
The Orphan energy chooses you to create the ultimate rescue, the connection to the self, beyond self-abandonment and into interdependence, the safe, secure world of true self-esteem and value.
When the Lover energy is active, your soul is at odds with your careful ego. You live a life switching between conquering fear, taking risks and the excitement of your consciousness expanding, followed by flopping back into the safety of what you know.
The Lover energy chooses you to connect with your personal source of power that’s not a climb for position or authority, not a power over another but real power - the power within.
When the King energy is active, your inner world is conflicted. Each time you step into your own rules, you hear the voice of the King’s shadow – the tyrant suggesting you are less than, how you’ll never live up to expectations and the weakling ‘prince’ who doesn’t protect your new path.
The solution is to step into the energy of the true King, the matured ‘male’ energy offering centred, confident direction from deep within. The unconscious pressure to ‘fit in’ evaporates as you step into your own leadership. .
You’ve looked around, decided what you like, made judgements and now you’re going out on your own. Does what you want match with others or should you just become what you think they want?
This stage is answered through the process of Creating Your Own Values, by using your Queen Energy.
